On the first Friday of July 2005, a dream was realized. Joe Gordon opened the Rodeo City Gospel Show with about 50 people in the audience. Joe knew there was a need for a quality show featuring local and regional artists in the Dallas area and the opportunity came when he started the Gospel Show at Rodeo City Music Hall in Mesquite. From July of 2005 to October of 2008, Joe built and grew the Gospel Show through hard work and the help of some very dear friends and sometimes with his own money. From the start, Joe felt that it was important to pay the artists who appeared on stage so he offset the cost by charging $5 per ticket. Those first 50 people spread the word and the audience grew over the first years to over 100 every month. For the third anniversary in June of 2008, LuLu Roman appeared to a sellout crowd. That was the first of the many sellout crowds to come. Many people who came to see LuLu Roman started coming to the monthly show and became regulars as well. In September of 2008, Joe made the transition from a successful solo artist to become part of the group Ransomed. He asked them to join him in growing the Rodeo City Gospel Show, and they gladly did. Over the next 6 years the Gospel Show grew to an average audience of 250, with many nights being sold out. In February of 2014 Clara Walker, owner of Rodeo City Music Hall, sold the building to a local church. Due to the age of the building and upgrades needed to comply with city code, the Gospel Show had to find a new home. From March until June of 2014, the show was held at Meadowview Baptist in Mesquite. In August of 2014, Mimosa Lane Baptist Church invited the Gospel Show to make a permanent home there. The church is a beautiful facility, and the members of the church are open, friendly, and loving. The partnership with the church is a blessing and a perfect fit. In making this move, the show was renamed Gospel Nights @ Mimosa Lane. Gospel Nights @ Mimosa Lane is a team effort. Joe Gordon started the show, and it has grown and takes many people to work on this. An important part of this team is the audience. Many of the people at the first show in July of 2005 are still regular attendees. Over the years some of our dear friends have gone to their heavenly home, but as it continues to grow, they are always in our memories. The Gospel Show has had the pleasure of hosting many national level groups, including LuLu Roman, Gold City, Palmetto State Quartet, Soul'd Out Quartet, The Anchormen, The Bowling Family, Jeff and Sheri Easter, Ronnie Hinson, and The Booth Brothers. The most important in all of this is the presence of the Lord. First and foremost this belongs to God, and always will. Quality music and worship is the mission statement of Gospel Nights @ Mimosa Lane.
